H.A.M

It was all good just a week ago….

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know that two of hip hop’s greatest (Kanye West and Jay-Z) have come together on a collaborative album titled “Watch the Throne.” With such heavy anticipation, they decided to release their first single, “H.A.M” today via Facebook. As you’d expect, the song is crack.

Meet Fannie.

Hello there! We meet again. I know…I know…it’s been five months since the last post. Truthfully, I haven’t been cruising the internet as much as I’ve been ACTUALLY living lately, and in turn these posts have fallen to the wayside. My sincerest apologies! Nevertheless, I came across something today that I wanted to showcase, because I think it’s dope enough that you should see…

fannie

Intriguing right? I mean, it’s not exactly the most practical piece of jewelry you will ever own, but it will undeniably be the most head turning purchase you’ll probably ever make. Fannie Schiavoni began her career as a Swedish tailor and later moved to London to pursue creating hand crafted jewelry like that which you see above.

fannie2

Yea, I need that. Each piece is upwards $500, and are available for purchase in the US solely at Barney’s New York, or Debut (also in New York)…otherwise you can purchase online at one of the following sites:

Damn…it’s been a good while since I caught that writer’s block and had no desire to write here, but after my usual browse thru the net today, I’ve got to share. Everytime I see something I like whether it be that I caught a glimpse of it in a magazine at the nail salon or s0meone straight up paraded around in it in front of me, I write it down or record it in my memory and search for it later on. My latest snippet had me on a wild search, peep what I found.

got 5

Funny thing is, that wasn’t even what caught my eye. In the blink of an eye I noticed the following shirt on some bitch somewhere (oh, how my memory fails me) and knew I had to have it. Come to find out I’m in love with theire whole line, and it isn’t tax as fuck like you’d expect, but IT IS hard to find!

Last but not least, this is what caught my eye, and I have a feeling it’s gonna catch yours tooo…..Jump on it, I did.

The Carter Documentary

The Carter Documentary provides an in-depth look at the artist Dwayne “Lil’ Wayne” Carter Jr., proclaimed by many as the ‘greatest rapper alive’. With comprehensive and personal interviews with Lil’ Wayne, this film also features insight from those that know him best. The world will finally get to know the history surrounding one of the most prolific artists of this generation. Watch it below.

Queen Gaga

If you watched Lady Gaga on Jay Leno you recall her mention of an invite from the Queen to perform at the Royal Variety in Blackpool. Leno asked Gagaloo what she’d be wearing to such an honorary occasion and she said “latex and leather” of course! We’ve all been dying to see the results of Gaga’s performance for the Queen (which by the way, was requested by the Queen herself)…and finally, they’re in!! Gaga rocked a huge red nun-ish dress complete with Elizabethan frills. Check it…

The Royal Variety Performance met in Blackpool and featured dance the group Diversity, performances by Alexandra Burke, Miley Cyrus, the cast of Sister Act, and Michael Bublé (Now Gaga’s outfit is starting to make a little sense). The event marks the first time the Royal Variety Performance has been held in the seaside town of Blackpool since 1955. Lady GaGa performed whilst suspended above the stage and even played piano whilst floating in the air. Hmm…wonder what Her Majesty made of that!

Just as Gaga said in her interview, the Queen obviously requested her performance hoping to see some of Gaga’s classic fashion and performance. If she wanted a stuffy old English type, she would have requested one! Hats off to Gagaloo…your latex and leather were a definite hit as usual!

Damien Hirst x Louis Vuitton

Recently Sotheby’s and Louis Vuitton hosted a charity auction to raise money for the Red Cross in London. The auction included a Louis Vuitton Red Cross Kit (pictured below). Additional designs by Ferran Adria, Damien Hirst, Annie Leibotivz, Marc Jabocs and others were also auctioned but I was specifically interested in the medical cabinet designed by Damien Hirst.

sothebys_louis_vuitton_red_cross_kit

Hirst teamed up with Louis Vuitton to create two twin trunks for surgical instruments. Vuitton’s inspiration was to create an iconic secretary trunk, and later create two twin trunks with opposite frontal openings and silver hardware finishing. The result? A collaboration of epic proportions. The twin trunks have been made in black Nomade leather, with deep blue microfiber lining.

LV_Trunks

Each trunk contains 10 different-sized drawers with compartments made to accommodate each individual surgical instrument, and of course, Hirst’s butterflies, and two silver skulls encrusted on the inside lids. Perhaps now it really is possible to go into surgery in style!

Obviouslyyyyy prices have YET to be released! More info to come.

Don’t Be Late to Cannabis Class!

At most colleges marijuana is what students are studying AFTER class, however at Med Grow Cannabis College, marijuana is the curriculum: the history, the horticulture and the legal how-to’s of Michigan’s new medical marijuana program. Nick Tennant, the 24-year-old founder of the college had this to say in a recent interview – “This state needs jobs, and we think medical marijuana can stimulate the state economy with hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars.” He just might be right. The school which is actually a booming business (no baccalaureates here) operates from a few bare-bones rooms in a Detroit suburb.

j1

The six-week, $485 prep class on medical marijuana is a cross between an extention of an agricultural class covering the growing cycle, nutrients and light requirements and a gathering of serious potheads, sharing stories of their best highs. The only required reading: “Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower’s Bible” by Jorge Cervantes. Although growing medical marijuana is legal in the state of Michigan, students say they’d rather not be identified in a published article. Hmm.

horticulture

While California’s medical marijuana program, is now big business, with hundreds of dispensaries in Los Angeles alone, the Michigan program, which started in April, is more representative of what is happening in other states that have legalized medical marijuana. Under the Michigan law, patients whose doctors certify their medical need for marijuana can grow up to 12 cannabis plants themselves or name a “caregiver” who will grow the plants and sell the product. Anyone over 21 with no felony drug convictions can be a caregiver for up to five patients. So far, the Department of Community Health has registered about 5,800 patients and 2,400 caregivers. I’m sure those numbers will only continue to grow.

medical-marijuana-card-400x300

For Mr. Tennant, who is certified as both a caregiver and a patient — he said he has stomach problems and anxiety — Med Grow replaces the auto detailing business he started straight out of high school, only to see it founder when the economy contracted. Med Grow began offering its course in September, with new classes starting every month. Mr. Tennant said he saw the school as the hub of a larger business that will sell supplies to its graduate medical marijuana growers, offer workshops and provide a network for both patient and caregiver referrals. Already, Med Grow is a gathering place for those interested in medical marijuana. The whiteboard in the reception room lists names and numbers of several patients looking for caregivers, and a caregiver looking for patients. The students are a diverse group: white and black, some in their 20s, some much older, some employed, some not. Some keep their class attendance, and their growing plans, close to the chest.

tfs_mm_sourdiesel

* “I’ve just told a couple of people I can trust,” said Jeffery Butler, 27. “It’s a business opportunity, but some people are still going to look at you funny. But I’m going to do it anyway.”

* Scott Austin, an unemployed 41-year-old student, said he and two partners were planning to go into medical marijuana together.

* “I never smoked marijuana in my life,” he said. “I heard about this at a business expo a couple of months ago.”

Because the Michigan program is so new, gray areas in the law have not been tested, creating real concern for some students. For example, it is not legal to start growing marijuana before being officially named a caregiver to a certified patient, but patients who are sick, certified and ready to buy marijuana generally do not want to wait through the months of the growing cycle until a crop is ready. So for the time being, coordinating entry into the business feels to some like a kind of Catch-22.

Exceeded Expectations

During tough economic times like these the first thing we’ve been trained to expect from big companies, is bad news. Royal Caribbean defied these odds when it announced the arrival of its largest and most extravagant ship to ever hit the high seas into Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades. Residents and media alike flocked to the Port to catch a glimpse of what promises to be the most magnificent ship to ever sail the ocean. One cannot help but conjure up images from the opening scenes of Titanic in which its architects and designers hailed it to be something out of this world!

Oasis_of_the_Seas_1

The epitome of Royal Caribbean’s legendary trendsetting ideals, the Oasis of the Seas encompasses everything you could ever possibly dream of , boasting never before seen component s on a cruise ship, including what Royal Caribbean calls “neighborhood” areas designed to mimic Central Park, the Boardwalk, and the Royal Promenade, and other amenities like a Pool & Sports Zone, a Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, an Entertainment Place and Youth Zone – each composed of extraordinary elements for those who dare to explore them such as the first living park at sea which features  a zip line that spans the height of 9 decks and makes its way diagonally above an open air atrium.

Oasis_Zipline

Guests can expect top of the line accommodations in a 28 multilevel urban-style loft suite complete with floor-to-ceiling windows. This isn’t that old bunk bed style cramp-a-thon cruise you’re used too! This ship has been crafted to both intrigue and satiate the guest that seeks out the luxury in everything. While an authentic styled amphitheater doubles as a pool by day and transforms into an ocean front theater in the evening, over 20 different restaurants to dine in allow for new tastes to be formed on each day of a vacation.

oasis_of_the_seas_2

To date, Oasis of the Seas is the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. A true architectural marvel at sea spanning 16 decks, she possesses the ability to carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and features 2,700 staterooms in total. These days cruising might be the last thing on your mind, but once you get a good look at the Oasis of the Seas, I bet you’ll be calling that travel agent you haven’t spoken to in ages!

American Music Awards

Between Shakira’s gyrating and Adam’s simulated fellatio (not to mention the VERY REAL boy-on-boy kiss), I don’t even know where to begin. From start to finish the 2009 American Music Awards provided its viewers with more shock value than anyone could have predicted. The opening Janet Jackson act was nothing to get excited for, although I thoroughly enjoyed calling her “Robin Hood” throughout…but favorites like Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston and the Black Eyes Peas had everybody up and out of their seats.

janet_ama

Fergie showed up looking 100x healthier than I’d ever seen her and was dressed to kill in a studded Georgio Armani get up that was to die for! The Black Eyed Peas were stylin’ on everybody at the AMA’s this year and we’ve really got to give it to them!

fergie-2009-amas-05

Announced by none other than A. Rod himself, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z took the stage to perform their hit “Empire State” and inspired us to love New York from across state lines. Jay accepted his award thanking the fans for learning to appreciate their cities and not just New York.

jay_z_ama

Taylor Swift took home several awards, which she accepted from the site of her upcoming show in London for which she and her crew were rehearsing. Good thing Kanye didn’t show up (he probably wasn’t invited anyway). Rihanna’s return to performance after her long stint of hiding out since the beating was all but exciting, she looked way too much like Gaga and barely moved throughout her performance. At best, the lasers on her shoulder pads were about the dopest thing she had going on.

rihanna_ama

J-Lo busted her ass dancing during her performance of “My Louboutins” as she tried to keep up with the ladies that have since replaced her like Rihanna and Gaga and Shakira reminded me why every man seems to love Colombian women. She had at least 30 back-up dancers and slithered her way across the stage in ways only Shakira could.

shakira_ama

Kelly Clarkson reminded us that some of these artists still have real talent and aren’t afraid to sing LIVE while Lady Gaga was her usual self in the standard spandex, lighted get up. She ended her performance with broken glass and fire, classic as always.

gaga_ama

But nothing really held a candle to Adam Lambert’s performance, in which he proceeded to thrust his pelvis in the face’s of both men and women alike. As if that wasn’t controversial enough, he concluded his performance and the AMA’s with a mouth to mouth kiss. The blogs probably won’t EVER let this one go…myself included.

lambert_ama

All in all the show was amazing. There were ups and downs and plenty of unexpected twists and turns. I was dissapointed that Beyonce was nowhere to be found and even more sad when I realized Rihanna’s comeback was nothing more than a setback. Whetever happens next, it’s gonna be a while before anything tops Lambert’s performance. Except maybe a Tsunami!!

Let’s talk Minaj

Unless you’re living under a rock, by now you’ve either seen or heard (or at least heard about) the self proclaimed “Harajuku Barbie” that is Nicki Minaj. The 23 year old rapper/singer hails from Jamaica, Queens NY and is anything but your ordinary “girl rapper”. What I love most about Nicki is her “I don’t give a fuck” attitude. She is who she is, and she doesn’t seem to care what people think of her.

minaj3

Minaj was discovered on MySpace by Dirty Money CEO “Fendi”, who signed her to his Dirty Money label. After appearing on The Carter Edition of Young Money’s The Come Up DVD series, Minaj was contacted by Lil Wayne. The two collaborated on a number of mixtape tracks.  In April 2007, she released her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over on which  Lil Wayne appeared on the track “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop”.

minaj2

Robin Thicke’s upcoming album entitled “Sex Therapy” will feature Minaj on the “Shake it for Daddy” track which was suggested by none other than Jay-Z himself. Apparently Jay-Z made the suggestion to Thicke upon hearing the single and they made the call right then and there. Of course, Minaj began screaming on the phone (who the hell wouldn’t scream after being recommended by HOV??)

minaj4

If you haven’t hopped on the Minaj bandwagon, you should at least give it a try. She’s not as rough as Lil’ Kim, but she sure is as blunt. Her voice is sweet and high pitched…gives the whole idea of a lady rapper a different vibe. You can download her mixtape “Sucka Free” by clicking HERE
